When I try to play movies on my computer, windows media player and realplayer both state they dont have the software instlled to run them...what? Im confused, please help.

I have a lite on DVD rom drive, OEM from Newegg.

You need to install a DVD player before WMP or Real will play DVDs. VLC is free and should do the trick.

I don't think WMP or Realplayer has a built-in dvd decoder which is why are you getting those messages. You will need to install a dedicated dvd player application (WinDVD or PowerDVD) or other free software as mentioned above.

There IS a codec so Windows Media Player will play DVDs (mine does) but I'm not exactly sure how I got it. I think it "installed" automatically when I downloaded WinDVD.
