need replacement to cyberhome 300. it was connected to a sony in bedroom.

Requirements

1. region free hackable
1. pal/ntsc converter
2. able to play vcd, dvd r-/+, mp3,
3. dix/xvid would be nice
4. under $70

looking at philips 642, norcent 220, etc....

TIA.

the last one i had didnt play DivX/XviD correctly... it didnt resize the videos correctly and there was some image quality issues 😕

i forget what brand it was (i was just testing it out)

I've been using my Philips 642 for over a year now and love it. It plays both NTSC and PAL on the fly and can be had for under $70.

It doesn't handle Divx/Xvid files that have advanced features enabled (QPEL, etc.) but is a great Divx/Xvid player for the price.

I have the norcent that was on gottadeal and it works great. Plays divx and MPEG4 flawlessly!

were you able to hack it to make it region free. there was nothing in videohelp.com for the norcent 220.
