DVD player slowing to a crawl

I'm trying to make an image of an old game CD (instead of running the actual CD; it's 16 years old now) but it causes the player to slow down so much that it'd take 10+ hours to do it. Is there a way to force it to stay revved up?

The CD itself reads fine but I'd rather not run it for hours, plus it makes more noise than necessary. It's the ripping process that the DVD doesn't seem to like.

Turn off error checking? Really, without knowing anything about your particular burner or the software you're using, no one can help you.

If the CD works but can't be copied, it sounds like the CD has some form of copy protection (probably in the form of bad sectors that prevent it from being copied with standard tools). What is the specific game and version?

You might try to download and install a trial version of Slysoft's CloneCD to see if it can create an ISO.

Sony NEC Optiarc AD-5260S, tried UltraISO and ImgBurn.

New as it is I wouldn't suspect the Optiarc. I've successfully used UltraISO for many years when creating ISO images from physical CD/DVD media. If it can't create a standard ISO image from your CD/DVD then I'd suspect the media (you are trying to create a standard ISO image, right?). IsoBuster and CDRoller are two of the best software available for recovering a damaged CD/DVD.
