DVD player question

I know this is not a computer problem but need something answered. I have a Sony DVD player that is 2 months old and a friend gave me a movie to watch. It is Ghost Lake and the movie will not play at all, I get this message cannot play this file or something like that and it says cannot play in the window on the DVD player. I took it over to a friends house and it played fine so I ripped the movie with DVD shrink and dvd decrepter with region free and css protection softwear running and I still get this message but the copy I made will play fine in his player fine and plays in the computer fine.

Have you had any experience like this?

Are you using DVD-R media? Try DVD+R media, the stand alone player you have is not compatible w/ DVD-R. My Sony stand alone players work fine w/ DVD+R.

I am using -r and plus r and rw all three work perfect in my machine. i usually use a rw to test and every movy I backed up plays fine with the rw just this movie original disk won't even play that is why I tried to rip and remove the region code and that did not fix it.
