I have had a Sony DVD player since 2000, been faithful to me. However in the twoyears or so it has started going haywire (skipping back to previous chapters or freezing) on some movies it will go good for a while then crappy on everything. It has been driving me nuts.
Anyway I cleaned the lense and it started going great, guess it was a good spell, but it started going crappy again on the last movie we rented even though there were no scratches on the DVD. I even cleaned it. So I said screw it, so I went out and bought another DVD player, Apex 1150 (cheapy). Low and behold, the same problems are still occuring.
I am starting to wonder if it has something to do with my other setup hardware (receiver, VCR, TV). I do have a wireless network, got it about the same time I noticed the problems, but I have taken the DVD player to my parents and the same thing happens. I rent from Hollywood video, is there possibility that they have "cheaper" dvd quality movies than what you could buy, not sure if they are normal "retail" DVDs or what. Just thinking of possibilities.
I just want to watch a fricken movie in peace without it skipping. So what could it possibly be that is causing this?
CLIFF NOTES:
Sony dvd player screwing up in movies
Cleaned lense problems still occur.
bought new DVD player
Apex Dvd player screwing up in movies

Any help is appreciated.
