DVD Playback

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP Professional. Whenever I try to play a DVD or CD the sound is choppy, I have used both Windows Media Player 11 and Nero Showtime to play back the DVD and it still is choppy. I tried installing a different codec to see if that was the problem. I installed the fddshow codec but it sitll is choppy. I have defragged the computer and the issue still is there. I think it is the actual DVD drive, but I am not sure. The device drivers are working fine as well. Please help. Thank you.

Try updating the firmware if you can. Sounds like the drive itself to me though. Talk to dell. They should send you a replacement.

It was a PIO problem. Your instructions fixed the problem, Tegeril. Thanks for your help. How does it revert to PIO, so I can stop it from happening again? What is PIO?
