DVD playback issue

Ok, I just got a Pioneer 106s and a Radeon 8500 LE (250/500) and I am having some issues with the DVD playback. I can watch movies without them crashing, but the menu's are kinda messed up (when you move your mouse over the selection, it does not high-light, but it will if you put the mouse an inch below the selection you want) Also, during the movie the colors don't seem right. When there is a dark scene and a bright light somewhere, the bright light looks kinda blotchy. It actually looks alot like colors do when you are running your desktop at 16-bit color and you have a really colorful pic as your background. I am using the alternate drivers from ATI's page for the 8500 and winXP. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

first off, what software are u using for dvd playback? If your not using powerdvd 4.0 XP, go out and buy it. It is hands down the best software dvd player out there. I was so shocked by the image quality when i compared it to the previous powerdvd versions. ALso the audio decoding and audio options cannot be beat. Powerdvd 4.0 xp will most likely fix your problems.

I am using the ATI DVD player that comes with the card. I tried interactuals player and it seemed a little better. I will have to get a copy of that and try it
