DVD over a network

I have herad several people talk about accessing a dvd drive accross a network. I have tried to before but have failed. If there is anyone that can help me out on this I will surely appreciate it.

I was under the impression that you dont really have the ability to decode a dvd stream over a network. Unless of course its a ripped dvd in a standard movie file format.
