DVD or VHS? --== Poll ==--

Now that I have a DVD player, it's a no-brainer. What do you folks prefer?

One thing I don't like about DVD players is that they... don't record. So I still have to keep my VCR to tape shows, etc.
Will we all have a stand-alone DVD-RW in our homes?

"VHS. I like to rewind."

i don't know about you but my DVD player has rewind (reverse, whatever you wanna call it) capabilities.

VHS = Very Horrid System 😉

Actually, I've all but stopped buying DVDs. Waiting for the HD-DVD content/players to start making it to market. 😀

DVDs, deffinetly. Of course, the fact that there are 4 DVD players and only a single VCR in my house kinda limits my choices, doesn't it? 😛

And in case anyone is wondering:

1 Pioneer DVD drive in my desktop
1 DVD drive in my Gateway laptop
1 cheapo Sanyo DVD player on our big TV
1 Pioneer 5-Disc DVD/CD changer in my brother's room

EDIT: oh, and I'd love to have a standalone DVD player for my room, so it'll be 5 one of these days.

no
i am putting a tv card into my wife's new computer, she is the only one that uses the VCR to tape stuff, so once i have her trained on using her computer to record stuff, then as soon as our last working VCR dies, i will ebay all the VHS and be a DVD only household

I'd venture to say that DVD holds about 3/4 of the sales market now, and maybe 1/2 of the rental market. I think circuit city doesn't seel VHS anymore and many other stores are starting to phase out VHS completely or just offer a "top 25" or new release shelf.

There are only 2 reasons you should have a VCR:

1) You swap tapes frequently.
2) You have old VHS home videos.

Otherwise new DVD movies and DVD rentals are here, affordable and they're here to stay.

If you need to tape stuff get a PVR/DVR like everyone else. Of course the monthly/lifetime fee sucks 🙁

I have too, getting DVDr's these days hoping somebody gets a hd-dvd solution out soon.

I come back from getting my car inspected, and what do I see? 1 vote for the Alien Prototype, and four 80-year old ladies voting for VHS. People, people!

I did. 😱
lol! For the love of humanity...WHY???

Isn't this a little like asking; "If you were having a tooth pulled, in which era would you rather have it done?"

A. Before the advent of anesthetics, with really dirty instruments and no antibiotics

B. Today

I personally do not have any sort of DVD player yet. Waiting for the right one which has it all for less (read and play MP3/OGG/WMA, VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, progressive scan and disable-able Macrovision). 😀

VHS is on the way out, just a matter of time.
