dvd not playing

It'll play on his drive (the movie is Princess Bride), up until it trys to load one particular scene, then the movie freezes, and you have to eventually cntrl-alt-delete out of the program to just exit the bloody thing. ON my drive, it'll play, but after the mgm logo lion plays when loading the menu, the video gets all scrambled (like blocks of rainbow pixels about 50x50 px. in dimension) on the menu and video. I've tried to run it on several different players (wmp10, interactual player, and mpc), and nothing works to alleviate the problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I originally thought it was a problem with his hardware (it still might be. it's a 2 year old dell after all), but I'm now thinking it might be how the dvd is encoded, but it's 2001 so I somehow doubt it, but it still might....I dunno. Usually I'm fairly skilled in reasoning out and getting computer hardware that normally works...to work.

Btw, my computer still plays all other dvds just fine, which is why I think this might be a disc problem, even though there are no visible signs of the dvd being damaged or scratched up.

Sorry, it comes from having a 10day old baby. I read and it basically goes in one ear and out the other. It is definitely a disc problem and my guess would be heat damage, which doesn't necessarily have to be visible.
