DVD is jumpy any advice

First my system: AMD K7 550 o.c. to 600, ASUS K7M, ATI All-In-Wonder 128 32M, SoundBlaster 5.1 Platinum, 256M of RAM, DTT2200 speakers, Pioneer 16x DVD player.

Problem: The playback is good most of the time, but on every DVD so far it halts continuously. Especially during heavy CGI scenes. I have chacked every setting I can think of and nothing seems to help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check that DMA is enabled and you have the very latest drivers installed.

What DVD software are you using?

I do have DMA enabled, I am using the ATI Dvd Player that came with the card. I've thought about downloading WinDVD 2000 to try it out. Post that link again

When you say "..but on every DVD so far it halts continuously." Can you elaborate? When it halts, does your dvd drive light flash on and off unusually? Is your hard drive reading at the time it halts?

Have you tried getting new drivers for your vid card?

Interesting. I'm using ATI's player with a Celeron 300A (not overclocked!) and an XPERT@Play 98, and most movies play without a hitch. Any particular movies?

I'd suggest playing with the sound options. Or just take the SB out, and see if things play well without it.

Hmm, mine was smooth with a C300A and Rendition V2200. Although, with only software overlay enabled via the drivers the edges were a bit blocky. The Savage4 fixed that and more, and CPU utilization fell off a cliff. Anyhoo, before you try a different player you might try using DVD Genie to adjust the settings on the Cinemaster engine since the ATI player does not allow for that. Otherwise, if you want to get another player anyway PowerDVD is the best now. It also includes diagnostics. dvd.ra.ru
