Hi everybody!
I´ve got a couple of questions on my mind about DVD.
I have a Radeon 32DDR, wich has good DVD support, so i´m
considering a DVD drive.
But i don´t know:
- If there´s any multi-region DVD drive on the market with macrovison off,
and if so, IS there any software available that enables recording
to hard drive, because sometimes i ren´t DVD´s and don´t have time to watch
them complete before return to the rental shop.

Thanks . :)

You can rip the DVD to your HDD with something like Smart Ripper. It takes around ten minutes to rip 2 hours of video on a T-Bird 700 (haven't timed it exactly). I think you can deMacrovision it with Smart Ripper (not sure though). I guess you can play the file from there. I've never tried it though. From there I encode it as an MPEG4 video with FlasKMPEG and burn it on a couple of CD-RW's. It makes it very easy to loan my videos to my brother-in-law. He has a habit of loosing things. I'm not about to loan out my Evangelion, Nadesico, or other Anime that costs around $30 a disc. When I get my RW's back I burn him something else to borrow. If (when) he looses them then I still have my DVD. One thing though. You loose all of the extra functions from the DVD. You get the video with one language track and subtitles on or off. There are plenty of sites that give you the how to part. I don't remember any of them off hand.

This is a link to that portion of www.dvdutils.com (or its successor) that has info on ripping and just about everything else you never needed to know about using/viewing/manipulating DVD data.

Power DVD will allow you to view the resulting vob written to your hard drive. I just got a Radeon and whatever software (the multimedia center) comes with that also allows me to view the files.
