DVD Images on Hard Drive Curpt after 2 months?

I bought a new MAxtor 250 GB 16 MB Cache drive about 3 months ago, and some of the DVD images I made on it about 2 months ago I can't burn them anymore it gives errors, but new ones I make to the drive are fine.

The drive is really hot to, burn to touch.

What format are the images in? Can you extract them back to files? If so, try playing them in PowerDVD or burning them with a different app.

They are in ISO format going to try a few things thanks I also got a new DVD burner a Pioneer 109 I had an LG before.

Overclocking? Run at stock speeds.
Maxtor? Get a Western Digital or Seagate.
1 drive? Backup and/or get a second drive for RAID 1 (not Maxtor.)

Daemon Tools is an effective tool for mounting CD and DVD ISOs. Microsoft also makes a tool, but its kind of a hack and not nearly as polished. (No Windows jokes, please.)

what type of case cooling do you have, the hdd should not be that hot (except for old scsi ones)

it's a super cheap generic cas with a 420 W PS, no fans or holes in it, getting a new case soon I was in the back and the heat from the PSU fan almost burnt my face. Going to leave the side off it for abit.

leave the side off, both sides if possible until you get a new case. maybe put a small "room" fan and have it blow directly in there, you need to get that heat out. that is way too hot. just don't let anything drop in the case and cause a problem. when you do get a case, i always look for cases that have a way to mount fans that blow directly on hdds, this will keep them extremely cool. i have 2hdds and a 80mm fan that blow directly on them and they are usually the same temp as the case, or maybe 1C more if that.

i am not sure if this heat is causing your problems our not because regular computer equipment can be used in extreme places. take for instance ATM machine - they are just computers with a f*cked up gui, and they have regular ide idds in them. out here in phx, az in the summer the air temp in the shaded will easily and reguarily hit 115F and there are quite a few ATM in direct sunlight where the surface of the atm will be at probably 140F+ and their hdds do fail, but not all the time. you may have gotten a bunk hdd...

i would also make a md5 file of the iso when you first make it to verify that it is f*cked up and that something else is not creating the problem

One more thing, I've burnt out 2 DVD Writers in the case in 1 year, but I Burn alot of disc's maybe 1000 or something, I was thinking the heat had something to do with that to, my system is.

XP3200
512 MB of ram
9600 Pro 256 MB
Maxtor 250 GB 16MB Cache
16X DVD writer
super cheap case no fans.

I would guess the drives are going bad just because you use them a lot.

I have 3 NEC drives and between them maybe I've done around 1,500 total.

Do you just burn constantly? I bet that could burn them out after constant use for a while.

I've had that same thing happen. I had around 200gb of dvd images and they all just stopped working.

I was able to use Get Data Back for NTFS to recover them, but somehow I couldn't do anything with them in windows.

Now I have a ton of hard drives and I mirror the files just in case.

Measure how long your IDE cables are to your HD. I experienced this very thing when i added a pair of rounded cables that were to long and corrupted one of my HDs each time i rebooted. At first, i thought it was my 305 mhz HTT... Turned out to be the cable.
