DVD Extras...Do you care?

So I was reading how the Blu-ray guys are adding extra features to the disks to entice more buyers and accelerate it's adoption. I am waiting on Blu-ray (various reasons) and thought there is no way this would get me to jump on it sooner, I like the quality improvement you can get, but I never look at the extras on a DVD.

Just curious if others are the same way or if I am in the minority (usually I'm in the later).

Lol sad but true for me too, most of the time. I re-watch the movies I REALLY like while listening to the commentary tracks (usually I don't pay full attention on this second go-around). I SOMETIMES watch deleted scenes. I RARELY watch those "making of" mini-documentaries.
 
All I care about is the movie. To me, deleted scenes are part of it, so I do appreciate the inclusion of deleted scenes. But I have no interest in any commentary, ´´making of...´´ videos, or internet content.

Ha! I feel the same way. The worst DVDs are Disney ones, they seem to have 45 mins of trailers that you trouble skipping before you even see the menu.
 
I'll watch the extras occasionally but it's never influenced my purchase of a DVD one way or the other. I think I'm used to the Netflix discs that are usually pretty bare when it comes to extras.

That said, we re-watched "Monster's Ball" Sunday night. I looked at the extras menu after the movie was over and it looked very slim.[retail disc] Holy crap! There was a scene that BB Thornton played as Karl from 'Slingblade.' Ahahahaha! Funny as hell.
 
If I have a get together and watch and movie and not everyone wants to go home yet then I will run through the extras, but if its just the family watching a movie I wont even bother.

I hate that!!

And some are so hard to get through, can't skip chapters, can't go to menu, set through all the stuff I didn't want to see.

I agree, all though the menu is nice to setup the audio. I guess I do like it when there is bonus footage and that can be inserted into the movie. I also like being able to remove it if I would like. Abyss and Independence Day are good examples of that.
 
About the only extras I like are the blooper reels. The last one I really liked was Ratatouille's R.I.P. Deleted Scenes piece. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about commentaries, making of, deleted scenes (there's a reason why they are deleted, and the Rat's scenes are done differently if you haven't seen it), trivia games, etc.
 
I am somewhere in between your two choices.
It's not a key part and I don't only want to see the movie.
I like the bloopers and the movie is based on a true story, I'd like to see something on the original story.

This is where I fall too. Of the hundreds of DVD disks, and now Blu-ray disks I've watched, I've only viewed the extras maybe 4 times.
 
I bought Lord of the Rings special edtion, and then watched the movie, and then watched the movie I think 5 more times in a row, each with a different audio commentary. It was exhausting.

To answer your questions, I really like extras, and they can be a bigger draw than the movie, for example, historical footage with a historical drama movie.
 
I have tried the audio commentary, but found that I was more interested in the movie then the comentary and had to shut it off. It was like someone trying to talk over the movie. I had not thought of historical footage on a historical movie though...just not the genre that I am into.

My pleasure; on the audio commentary, it's not an either/or - I usually watch the movie first without it, and after that, if it's of interest I can use the commentary.
 
Hardly ever watch the extras. What is more fun is seeing the Easter Egg
hidden in a lot of DVDs
 
I occasionally watch the extras, if they catch my interest. The HD DVD of Poseidon and the Blu Ray of Twister both included a Discovery Channel documentary, which I thought was a nice addition to the usual behind the scenes kind of extras. My wife, on the other hand, watches a lot of the extras, so it's worth it for us to get extras on the movies she likes.
 
Sounds like most of my disks are just duds for extras, some of these (like the Twister Documentary) sound interesting. I would also be interested in the easter eggs. Most of mine are behind the scenes or interviews with the actors/director/others or the trailers. Not stuff that is really interesting. Any one seeing if the extras are improving, or are some listed the minority?
