FelixDeKat, i have never seen a single post by you in this sub-forum that is not trollish or fanboi-ish.

IOW, your contributions have been entirely unwelcome & FUD-filled.

Duvie is tired of your BS, as we all are.

He's not an AMD fanboi either; if you remember back, he used to run P4s & was a big advocate of the benefits of HT when that came out.

Im sure many of your posts could be portrayed as "trollish, entirely unwelcome & FUD-filled" by anyone who disagrees with you.

Dont think you or anyone else has a monopoly on this judgement.

Duvie is clearly trolling me in the worst way, and I can point out at least 50 threads where he does this over and over again. But you choose to ignore them - fine by me.

But that also denotes your underlying demeanor and motivation and disqaulifies you entirely from giving an unbiased opinion. Your opinion is quite biased!

Felix, you are the king of trolls, and we all know it. Duvie and n7 are right.

This applies to you too and everyone knows it.

Hate to jump in on this intellectual whiz-fest but I got kicked in the shins for contributing my experience with an intel chip for no reason and its not appreciated. Calling someone's input lame is what is lame to me. People should chill out and not try to act like big shots on these forums since we are all guests here.

Obvios but don't forget even with a single core cpu the read speed of your DVD can bottle neck performance a bit, make sure you have a one that doesn't read DVDs (move) at slower speeds. many do but some times a firmware swap can fix that.

I always heard that Intel was the better CPU for that type of work .

In the past i played a lot of games thats why i went with AMD .

I've not bought an Intel CPU before , and was just wondering is there anyone out there with 1 thats around £200/$350 .

Could you tell me what it performs like ?

I was looking at these 2 :-

1 x Intel Xeon 3.2GHz FA 800MHz 2MB cache Nocona CPU Retail @ £229

1 x Intel Pentium 4 950 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.4GHz (800FSB) @ £229

1 x Intel Pentium 4 650 3.4 GHz ( 800 MHz ) - LGA775 Socket - L2 2 MB - Box (BTX Type I) @ £207

Is this right ??

Intel Pentium® 4 D 940 Dual core 2x3.2GHz 800FSB LGA775 2x2MB cache @ £168

Intel Pentium® 4 D 830 Dual core 2x3.0GHz 800FSB LGA775 2x1MB cache @ £192

Why is the 2x3.2GHz/2x2MB cheaper than the 2 x 3.0GHz2x1MB cpu ?

AMD's CPUs are just for encoding as Intel's

The reason why the 940 is cheaper is probably because a) you probably need a newer motherboard to run it (assuming you had an 8xx compatible motherboard) and b) they're probably trying to phase out smithfield (sans 805)

Do you think its worth the trouble for buying/selling your hardware for maybe 10% performance gain? (assuming you get like a 930/940 and o/c it to 4ghz) Your AMD 2 x 2.4ghz is just perfectly fine for right now. "Sidegrading", that's a nice term :)

Definately Intel for an encoding rig. I was using an OCd 3200+ running at 2.4 Ghz for a long while but decided to give the 805 Pen-D a try since it was so cheap and I'm glad I did. You can easily OC it to 3.4-3.6 Ghz on air and it cut my encoding times in half. Didnt have to buy new ram or a fancy mobo either. The Asus p5p800 mobo supports this cpu and its dirt cheap so I got to resuse my ram and my old agp card.

Yeah.. kinda not relevant, since you had a $100 single core 3200+ going up against a $100 D805 while running multi threaded apps (encoding). Would you say the same thing in his case, X2 3800+ to P-D 940?

You are right...I shouldn't have used the word lame....I should have just said the most obvious statement of the week....Dual core cut times nearly in half versus a single core in encoding apps whioch are some of the most multithreaded apps around...newsflash definitely...

Maybe I should compare my quad core system to your dual core...
