DVD drive problems

Up until about a month ago my computer played DVDs fine. It's windows xp, has a dvd drive, about 2 ghz, good video card, etc. I have no idea what made it stop working

Basically, when I try to play a DVD, I get error messages saying the DVD can't be played. I've tried over ten DVDs and none of them work. In windows media, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings." I've tried this, and it doesn't work

help!
