DVD Drive problem? Cannot write or read-dvds

My drive is a liteon dvd-rw: exact model is dh20a4p
The drive can recognize cds/cdrs but not dvds
It seems to be able to recognize blank dvds though and i dont know if it can burn dvds.
But i just bought it in august and now i need it.
It does read blank dvds thought but cannot burn them.
It does read and burn cds though

That suggests your DVD laser is bad. There are separate lasers for CD and DVD. When one works and the other does not, it points to failure of that component.

You may have a bad Filter Driver. I have had that happens and it make some media unreadable. Let me know if you want to check for it.

1.Download ImgBurn burning software and install it.
2.Run ImgBurn and using the menu select Tools - Filter Driver Load Order.
3.From the Filter Driver Load Order screen use the Copy to Clipboard Button that will do a copy
4.Paste results here in a post using CRTL-V key.

Heres the Link for ImgBurn
