I've had this notebook for a few months and haven't any problems.

Until my DVD drive acts weird and fails to recognize any discs I put in. Went to device manager and the hardware for it all works properly but it fails to read any of the disc content. However, when I restart the computer it's back to normal until a few hours later it automatically just doesn't read the discs. I don't know if it has anything to do with firmware or serious hardware problems. Could it be a service process issue maybe?

If anyone can shed some light on this that would be awesome.

I"m running Vista Home Premium on a HP dv4000 laptop.

Thanks!

May be a heat issue. If the drive gets too hot it could start having problems. May want ot contact HP about the issue.
