I am looking for some DVD software to move files and videos to DVD for storage, viewing and putting files I have recorded into a DVD format for viewing on those archaic dvd players for TV's.

I know there are several popular options, but I will have to test all the trials, because I found what I believe to be a major deficiency in one software, and do not know if this is standard, just that software, or if some makers just have better applications.

I used Cyberlink PowerProducer 5 to created a DVD from a 356mb avi file. The file was 1244 kbps, 652x352.

Producer created a file that was 779 mb, 4000 kbps bitrate and 352x240, not even 16:9. And the quality is terrible. I used freeware Media Encoder v0.7 and encoded a mpeg-2 file at 1600 kbps (it kepts the same aspect ratio of course), and it turned out 440mb. And this file is significantly better than the file Producer created. There are no other options

This was using a "smart fit" on Producer. So maybe that reduced the resolution, but still, a 356mb into a poor quality 779mb seems to be a bad option.

So - is there any software where I can change the bitrate?

I usually use ConvertXtoDVD and would say it's a brilliant piece of software. Recommended.

WinAVi and Sony DVD Architect.

WinAVI = fast convert of the video file

Sony = great menu creation but slow

I like NeroVision it is easy to use than Adobe Premiere Pro that I use seldomly. NeroVision comes with Nero Burning Rom package.
