Is doesnt write DVDs... it only allows for copying (ie unscrambled output). I think the certain Apex model ($150 range) can do that anyways.

I have been seeing this a lot lately too. The photo looks like a piece of junk. Silver face, etc..

I would not mind hearing from anyone who has bought one.

Looked like a scam to me.

if I am correct, the same fellow claimed to have Apex units some many months ago, only accepted payment via an 800 number where they asked for your checking account number, and then never delivered - but apparently did not charge people either.

Why charge...lol. With your checking account information.... he can afford to wait for that!

Muther Focker.... someone should take him out.

Yeah, as Cybordolphin so elegantly put it, it isn't good to give any body your checking account information, I wouldn't even trust a established company with mine. :)

I would only "buy" this if it was free and included free shipping......

Yep, recieved the same spam email the other day. Even claims to be a "gaming system," I assume it has some rudimentary version of pong on it. The $99 apex deal made CNet, IIRC, and there were some people in here that ordered one. I'd avoide this. Any legitimate company isn't going to advertise via spam...

No..the APEX region free macrovision free DVD player is long gone out of the market and even pulled from EBBay now. The Konka 1800 is a macrovision free but has alot of problems. I had to take mine back because it wouldn't unload or load a disc properly. The 8050 looks legit as a low end multiregion player made in China without macrovision. If you look for region free players anywhere else be prepared to pay $600 and up.

A couple of things:
-You can still find the Raite DVD player occasionally (buybidwin had it for awhile) which has the same features as the Apex (different connections though). It is actually a bit better feature-wise if I remember correctly.
-I doubt this "deal" is a scam... though it could be. It is still a way inflated price though (that they will probably tack a $50 s/h charge onto). Now if it had a DVD-R drive in it like the post implied it'd be cool, but all it does is lack a macrovision encoder - no big deal. Just use an old vcr and you can record macrovision scrambled stuff anyway. I'd bet someone had a cache of $125 apexes or raites and decided to unload them by sending out a spam message for 5 bucks / million addresses or whatever it goes for today.
