Dvd Compatibility

You don't *know* for sure until you try. Manufacturers will usually exempt themselves from service claims by advertising less compatibility than more, so even if your DVD player does not explicitly say it's compatible, it may be. May also not be.

I've had really old Toshiba DVD players read all my DVD+Rs, but my friend's newer GoVideo DVD player can't read the same discs.

It also helps compatibility if you "book-type" your DVD.

It sorta depends on how old your player is. My 2002 Panasonic would not recognize the DVD+R media that my brand new Plextor 708A liked so well. And the Plextor is not one of the few writers that support "BitSetting" of the "Book Type" field, which would apparently have been one solution.

Newer players seem to be more tolerant.

Looking around, I found a firmware upgrade for my player which did the trick. I second NumbaJuan's recommendation of VideoHelp.com.

Beware, this DVD business will get you in deeper than you ever expected!
