This system is a Toshiba Satellite A75 S211. It had some viruses and spyware on it, which I got rid of. It also had two burning software programs on there. I got rid of one and left the other.
The DVD CD/RW drive on this is recognized by Windows, but will not read anything you put in it. When you try to open it, it just asks you to insert a disk.
I was told over the phone that it may be the laser in drive that is not working any longer. He suggested I try cleaning it with some alcohol and a q-tip. Did that. Didn't help.
Does that sound right? The burning software that is currently installed has nothing to do with this problem, even if it is corrupt, right? It would either be the OS or the drive?
I looked up the firmware for the drive on this model laptop, and it was only for a DVD drive that fixed the DVD-RAM2 issue.
