DVD burning

Anybody have more than one dvd burner in their pc? I'm just wondering since dvd burners are so cheap if adding another one could save some time. I would like to add another one and burn 2 dvd's at a time. Just wondering if the typical rig could handle burning 2 at a time.

Thanks

I used to have a 300mhz celeron and I remember trying to burn two cd's at the same time....made so many coasters.

I tried this with 2 burners in my Opty 165 rig and with 2, it burns slow as mollasses. It is much faster burning 1 at a time. Even 1 to encode and 1 to burn is much faster vs 2 burning.

the limiting factor will be HD speed,if you have 2 hard drives and burn 2 images off 2 different hd then it will be good but if you burn 2 dvd's from the same source then the hd will be limiting your burning speed.

Good point. Never thought of that.

Really? That would be some poorly optimized software, unless we are talking about burning two DVDs with different content.

I tried that recently with my NEC 3520A and NEC 3550A and it worked fine. It went quickly but I'm sure my FX60 and Raptor had a lot to do with it.

Dual encoding

I thought this would be an issue. it really depends on software and hardware, since they play hand in hand. if your software supports the technique, but your hardware won't respond to such measures, then maybe try something else.

but I know Nero 6 on one of my P4 systems won't let me do a double burn with CD-Audio media:

P4 w/HT
NEC DVD-RW 16x
CD-RW 48x

never tried changing ribbons, probably never will, since I'm not a cd burning freak like I once used to be

Even an old 60gig 2mg cache, ATA 100 hdd that i have has enough speed to keep 2 dvd burners burning at 16* each. I think the problem would rather lie in the software or the way burners are configured ie are they both on the same IDE chanel etc.

EDIT: there is an easy way to kill hdd performance and that is trying to read 2 thigs in parallel. Use of buffer effectively could solve all the problems.

I use 2 DVD burners and burn 2 at a time. I keep them on seperate IDE controllers and use 2 dif progs that cache the data to 2 seperate HDs, works great but I rarely have a need to burn 2 dvds or cds at a time. I just did it to see if it was possible and it definately is.
