Hey all, I want to buy this DVD burner:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-152-011&depa=1

and I was looking for opinions on if it's a good pick or not. Suggestions are welcome :)

Also I have a question: the main purpose for getting this burner is to...umm... "backup" DVD's and I was wondering if there are any compyright issues that will arise. Is it as easy as I hope it is? (Just put the DVD in my DVD-ROM and a blank DVD-R in the DVD-RW drive then copy it)

Thanks!!

Everyone will recommend that burner from what I have seen.... heh.. i have never used one, but people definitely seem to love it.

if I was going to buy a new one tomorrow, I'd give that one a whirl!

I would spend the extra $$ and get the 2510A. You will be set for when the DL media is out and cheaper.

Thanks for the lead! I was reading up a little on the shrink and it looks like that needs to be done because the single layer DVD isn't big enough to fit an entire DVD9 on it right? So basically this is a necessity for copying movies then...what a pain in the butt...oh well though, it will be worth it!!

So with the 2510A, when DL media finally does come out for a decent price i could avoid all the compressing right?? Yaay I might just do it

Thanks

Yep, you will not need to compress the movie or remove features. The media is expensive now, about $12/disc, but the market should start seeing them in more quantity by summer's end, and the price should come down.

2510 would be a nice choice. It's not that much more.

I just got 2500A two weeks ago. Didn't do any burning yet since I'm waiting for a monitor for my PC. But I plan to do a firmware update to make it DL-capable when media becomes available. ;)
