does any1 know a way to take any xvid or divx avi file and burn it to a DVD-R and then play it on regular DVD player.

I have tried TMPGEnc but that took 15 hours. Does any1 know any faster way or a way to speed that up?
 
any way you do it, the program has to recode and create that AVI into compatible mpeg2 dvd file.

How fast is your system?
 
i'm running a P4 2.6C with 512MB PC 3200 and a G2 Ultra

also when u have a DVD in AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS format what dvd burning option should u use on Nero or should i use anythign other thatn nero?
 
Funny to see this post, as I am currently testing out my new Lite-On 851s. This is the first DVDburner I've owned and am a nOOb to ripping, copying, and watching.
I'm currently using DVD Shrink 3.1.2 to compress the files into the Audio_TS and Video_TS folders. Now, what do I do from here?
Are we on the same page Vivi?

EDIT: I also have Nero Express to burn. What other prog's are dependable with DVD copying?
 
yah we r on the same page pretty much.....
i've found the best way to burn using DVD decrypter but i need ISO's for that and i have no idea how to turn my xvid avis to ISO's at all

total n00b here also
 
ISO, please define. Xvid and avis, please define as well. I'm still really new to this DVD stuff.
Well Vivi, I feel lucky. I successfully burned a DVD (Dumb and Dumberer) using DVD Shrink 3.1.2 and Nero Express. I tried playing the DVD in my Apex AD-1200 and it was surprisingly unable to play. It played OK in my PS2, laptop, and desktop. Hmmmm, now my only problem is finding a way to get my stand alone DVD player to play these DVD's. I'm thinking it might be the media (Imation (Ricoh) 4xDVD+R) that is incompatible.
 
ViviF0rever & DarkNephree, all you need to learn is here. Despite that fact that you have one thing in common (you're newbies), it sounds like you have two different goals. Vivi, you need to study the Convert and Author How-to's. DarkNephree, you just need to review the DVD Rip How-to's.

To address Vivi's initial question, as Sid59 said, there is no getting around the requirement to convert your XVid & DivX files to Mpeg2. TMPGEnc is a benchmark program for doing this, and should be representative of what is required. Perhaps you can try lowering the desired output bitrate (quality) of your MPEG2 file, and see how it goes.

Thinking outside the box, if you have the right hardware, like say, a video card with TV out & and a real-time external MPEG capture device, you might be able to play the Xvid or DivX file on your computer, and do a real-time MPEG2 capture back to your PC. (Video card out -> Capture device In -> USB in). Similar to what this gent did: loopback
