DVD burning problem

I just got this drive, used it the other day and burned a dvd flawlessly. Now I'm trying to burn something else, and Nero keeps telling me to insert a disc that isn't already full. I've tried a bunch of my DVDs, and even tried burning a cd, same thing. It ejects the (blank) media in the drive and prompts me to insert a blank disc...

Alcohol 120 wont let me burn either...

Help! I don't know what ha changed or why it isnt working now...

Have you rebooted? Windows gets retarded about CD drives occasionally.

Do you have Easy CD Creator installed? Easy CD also includes DirectCD which interferes with Nero. You should uninstall them.

Tried rebooting, no luck.

Only have nero, and now alcohol. Should I try removing them and reinstalling?

Tried Imation and memorex cdr's, and tdk dvd-r's.

The media should be ok. Check the IDE controller Transfer Settings to make sure that "DMA if Available" is highlighted from Control Panel==>System==>Device Manager. If that setting is OK or doesn't help, you could also try deleting the IDE controller and re-installing.

Try using the drive to read from a few commercially pressed CD or DVD first, make sure the CD-ROM drive is able to recognize the changes in the discs. I suspect there might be a firmware bug or something that is preventing the OS from recognizing the disc change. Updating the firmware might help.
