DVD burning issues and problems

Hi everyone.

I am a total newbie to this dvd burning and I have a few isuues that I need help with.

Question. When you burn dvds, what speed do you usually use??? Is that based on the media and the drive speed????? Does burning at a higher rate than 1x or 2x sometimes prevent the movie from playing on some older players??

I got the cheap dvd-r medias to use on my TDK AID-840 till I perfect the technique. 😉 May move on to the Ritek from Newegg once I am confident.

I was using dvd shrink, imgtools and dvddecrypter for all the burning. I tried the newest version of Nero 6.3.0.3(instead of imgtools and dvd decrypter) and it just hangs on me. Got a couple of coasters from that. 🙁 Not sure why this is happening.

When I try to backup a dvd and keep the menus and the movie, strange things happen duing playback. The opening company logo screen and the menu screen goes into slow mo. The movie plays fine though. Anyone experience this???

You should check and make sure that your dvd drive is compatible with the software: check software venders web site for updates on drives, or try different software http://www.alcohol-software.com/ is pretty good not free though but have a 30day trial, also http://www.daemon-tools.cc/portal/portal.php for image emulation

well I would recommend NOT using Nero to burn.. either use DVD decrypter or COPYtoDVD to burn.
p.s. cheap media could simply be the problem. I have NO luck with cheap media. and definitely use -R for movies instead of +R.
