Ok, Ive been reading and reading now I confused my self even more. Ive apparently stumbled across old and new articles about dvd ram, r, blah blah blah....All I want to do is know which one I can get that burns dvd-discs so I can back up my dvd movies, and play them back in my dvd player. Can anyone recommend a brand/model.
 
Get either DVD+R or DVD-R. Or get the Sony drive that works with both formats.

Either +R or -R will play in about 75%-80% of stand-alone DVD players. Neither format is 100% compatible. DVD-RAM is completely INcompatible with set-top players.
