I must be either too stupid, or too lazy to use mine for DVD video.... I only use mine to backup data. :(

Why is everyone so cheap when it comes to this kind of stuff? The movie on DVD is probably about $14 in stores. Not only that, but DVD burners can burn about 5GB worth of data, right? $1.45 for 5GB of data is cheaper than a CD-R. What's the big deal?

They're talking about the original Star Wars trilogy, which you can't buy on DVD. And you will most likely never be able to buy it on DVD. So people have to resort to ripping it from an antiquated Laserdisc. Thanks, George Lucas!

Thanks, there Einstein. I don't care if you can buy it or not. I was just saying that if a DVD-R is $1.45 for ~5GB of storage, and a CD-R is about say $.25 for ~700MB of storage...they come out to be almost the exact same price.

Sony is already selling it Japan. Perfect for recording high definition if it wasn't for digital rights management. Someone needs to make a recorder that can record a HD progressive signal off of component.

just wait... I'm sure once the new trilogy has been milked the old one will be out on DVD within a year of the release of the "Boxed Trilogy" set of the new 3 movies. Either that or a 8 disk special edition with all 6 movies, 1 disk of scenes that were cut, and 1 disk of specials.

Exactly my point. Thanks for beating it into the ground.

I believe you are misunderstanding him. You can get a pack of 50 CD-Rs for $5 or less so you shouldn't be paying more than maybe $.10 for a CD-R disc. Most of the time you can find 50 packs for $2~3 after rebates.

You mean dual-layered? From what I've read it's physically impossible to burn a dual layered disc.

yeah dual layer is basically two single layered discs smashed together. Not gonna happen. Blu Ray is the only real answer.

I've had the 4x pioneer since the day after Thanksgiving. I think that Veritas STOMP is the best burning software out there. I use a small program I downloaded from somewhere that transcodes the movie only (who needs the crappy menus and extras, not me), and then use stomp to burn it to dvd.

Great for xbox backups as well.

You know, you've got some attitude you little jerk. You said the movie was 14 bucks in a store, I just explained that you can't buy it in a store. People with attitudes like you don't last too long around here.

DVD+R/RW

Read some of the FAQs and comparasions. I was considering a -R drive before, but now I'm leaning towards the +R standard. Drives and media are cheaper to boot.

- M4H

I've never read such a biased site as that one.

They even say don't get a dual format drive because it makes it more complicated and because DVD-RW/-R isn't worth it.

C'mon, not that many people who are stupid enough to be confused by the differences between + and - would buy a multi-format drive.

Anyway, to the original poster, biatch :p Wish I could have a decent quiality copy of TESB, and a DVD burner, damned rich gits.

I have been paying 1.10 to 1.50 for TDK or Verbatim 4x +r media, top of the line, compared to 1.15 for Accus, which is really crap. I have had both the Pioneer A03 and now the NEC1100a and have burnt over 1000 dvd's....so I do have a feel for quality and performance. I will take the +r anyday over the -. Too many reasons to list besides the one's that I mentioned.
