some friends and I have had emprex drives. work well for about the first 150 dvd's burned through them, then they start acting 'weird'. i would go for the nec 3520A @ newegg for around ~$60, good drive (I own one).

NEC 3520.

I have a 3520 and it's flawless. Have burned several dozen CDs and DVDs so far. Not one coaster even on crappy media (TEON DVD-Rs).

I think Nero is the best program to use.

I have the Plextor 716A, great drive, and Nero is definetly the way to go for burning software
