I am contemplating buying a DVD burner but they are expensive compared to CD burners and a lot of computers these days don't have a DVD ROM drive. So what do you guys think, is it worth it to get a DVD burner or better to just stick with a CD burner?

It all depends on what you want to do.

I want to back up all my DVDs since some of them have gotton scratched and aren't playable. Want to preserve what I have left. I also have a bunch of other large video files I want to get off my hard drive.

If all you are going to do on your dvd burner is burn cd's get a cd burner, it will be faster and cheaper. If you need or want to burn dvd's or need the extra storage go get a dvd burner.
I was faced with the same choice near Christmas and I chose to get a faster cd burner.

Considering you can get a dvd burner for around $150 AR and media for under $1/dvd then I don't see why it is considered expensive.

Check Hot Deals, Cendyne 4x DVDr --> $150 :)

I don't see why you wouldnt...price/MB for DVDR is unbeatable, under $1 for 4.7gb as opposed to under $1 for 700mb. And as 2x and 4x medias start to appear and lower in price, fast burning will be available soon :)

$400 will get you an external USB DVD burner. You can get an internal IDE for 1/2 the price.
