My DVD Burner NEC1100a gives me a Power Calibration Error everytime I try to burn CD's. It is ok with dvd's, but with CD's I get a Power Calibration Error. Does this mean it's time to say goodbye to the dvd burner?

no, it means you're using crappy media. Buy some good CD-Rs and you'll see the difference

This burner used to burn the same cd's no problem, but now I just get coasters. Are you telling me that all of a sudden it's the crappy media, while I was using cd's from the exact same spindle and it gave me no problems before?

My NEC1300a used to give me the same error until I RMA'ed the drive. Try different firmware.

NECs are finicky. If you use spindled CD-R media like Princo, you will find some impossible variations in quality. Heck, the NEC at work made 5 out of 8 coasters of Memorex spindle DVD-Rs. If a good, brand name media, like Verbatim or TDK will work, you're OK...
