I have a Cendyne DVD-RW and everyother dvd I burn ends up with a "Power Calibration Error". Could this be a sign of Power Supply troubles? I am thinking so, but I am still uncertain. I really dont want to spend what little money I have on a new PS if I dont have too. Here is what I have

Gutted HP Machine in a New Case
Amd Athlon XP 1700+
512MB of ram
ATI Radeon 8500LE 64MB
52x24x52 CD-RW
4X DVD-R 2X DVD-RW 16X CD-R 8X CD-RW 42X - CDROM
SB Audigy 2 Platinum With 5 1/4 bay module
250W HP Quality PS

I say HP quality because many knowledgable people have told me that HP is known for using good quality Power Supplies because of the potential problems they can create for their customers.

I probably need a new PS, I am thinking Antec 400W.

Power Calibration Error usualy means that your burner doesnt like the media you gave it.

try sticking with brand names & you will have no problems.

I've seen that on 3 or 4 different drives.

One was my first CD burner. Started out liking all media. Then only liked certain media 100% of the time, 50% on other type. Had the same discs, didn't buy any new....and it stopped liking one type entirely, went to 50% on the kind it used to like. Then 1 in 4 times it'd burn, but the disc would be hard to read in other drives.

One of the others was a Cendyne (Pioneer) DVD-R. It went back to the store, swapped for another. No more power calibration errors on the same media.

I don't think it's the media causing the trouble. Media certainly makes a difference if the drive is dying, like dying people it's going to like it's favorite food as it's last meal. Hope you filled out your warranty card.

my cdrw gives me this error like once every 100-200 burns.. I just press ok, and try reburning on the same disc.. never happened twice in a row.. still don't know why it happens but in my case it's not that big of a deal..
