DVD Burn Speed help

I purchased an 8X dVD burner, but I am unable to burn above 2X. My original batch of DVD -R were 2X, and I purchased 50 4X media and still I am only able to burn at 2X.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bumping this thread because I am having same problem with my Sony DRU500AX, it is a 4x DVD+-RW and only ever burns DVDs at 2x when the media is 4x media... it says its burning at 4x but takes 2x as long as its supposed to, so its going at 2x speed.

Ugh I'll repost this in General Hardware, didn't realize the category.

Burn speed will vary with each individual blank disc. I've got a Sony also and on x4 Ritek media it can burn at x4, but maybe 40% of the time will do so at x2. Sony aren't the greatest at getting this right, apparently.

Upshot is - if you want to burn at x8, buy x8 media.
