Duterte is breaking new ground in law enforcement with his decision to target children as young as 9 for his drug death squads. This is where the USA will one day head, it's pretty much written on the wall at this point that Trump will begin using the US vast network of police death squads to target minorities for "enforcement" like Duterte... but he's already so far behind! How could Trump possibly catch up to Duterte? He has barely started his mass deportations, which are weak compared to Duterte's death squads. Trump wishes he had a single death squad that wouldn't leak every murder he ordered... what a chump!

Trump really needs to brush up on his insane dictatorship game, because right now Duterte is absolutely schooling our president on how to terrorize your own country. Trump just can't compete. What a LOSER! Sad.

Trump is jealous.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/03/politics/trump-duterte-phone-call/

"He was quite sensitive to our war on drugs and he wishes me well in my campaign and said that we are doing, as he so put it, 'the right way,' " the President said."

So they were already murdering 15 year old children and Trump was all thumbs up. Do you think he'll change his stance now that the killing parties will be gunning down 9 year olds?

Duterte pitched the move as a way to stop a “generation of criminals” in its tracks. School-age thieves and drug runners must be “taught responsibility,” he said. The draft bill alludes to the “pampering” of young offenders.

Which is exactly my point: Trump is a dumber, more powerful and slightly more ethical (at this point) version of Duterte. Thankfully, I don't think Trump is charismatic or smart enough to convince anybody to kill anybody else.... but I very well may be proven wrong.

Clean up your drug problem, or your children die.

This is actually a useful tool to maybe help start self-policing of drug problems.

Progressives seemed to be ok with Obama ordering the deaths of American citizens without any due process. Some of those killed were "collateral damage" and not adults.

I swear, Trump could start banning guns and his useful idiots would say it was okay, "because Obama!"

I honestly can't look at Philippinos the same way anymore after knowing they voted for this.

To be fair tho, I can't look at Americans the same way anymore knowing we voted for Trump.

Way to go Donald, way to show some restraint. We see what even worse could be

Do you not know what is happening in the Philippines?
It also happened in Brazil in Rio (police chief) had off duty cops killing kids who robbed tourists on the beach, chief was getting paid by the beachfront business owners. It was in the early 2000's.

It's not going to amount for much.

Thailand tried the same. They took the drug pushers to the woods and shot them all in the back. It did absolutely nothing. The drugs are still there. The people abusing the drugs are still getting the drugs. It has been shown that this type of enforcement is highly ineffective.

To combat drugs you need to give people hope. Good paying jobs. Education. Government assistance. But, that looks weak and takes too long. Shooting everyone and anyone doing drugs is the answer I guess. It's so stupid.

Less WoD, less stigma for drug addiction, help for people. Education and knowledge for the kids coming up so they know what drugs really are. In other words, drugs like heroin or method are even close to MJ.

I support less WoD, freeing up funds to help people

Contrast Duarte's WoD to what's happening in Portugal. Drastically different approaches, only one seems to be working, if decreasing death from OD's and reducing HIV transmission via infected needles are any indication of success.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-overdose-in-portugal/?utm_term=.f61b4f562da4

Portugal decriminalized the use of all drugs in 2001. Weed, cocaine, heroin, you name it -- Portugal decided to treat possession and use of small quantities of these drugs as a public health issue, not a criminal one. The drugs were still illegal, of course. But now getting caught with them meant a small fine and maybe a referral to a treatment program -- not jail time and a criminal record.

But in Portugal, the numbers paint a different story. The prevalence of past-year and past-month drug use among young adults has fallen since 2001, according to statistics compiled by the Transform Drug Policy Foundation, which advocates on behalf of ending the war on drugs. Overall adult use is down slightly too. And new HIV cases among drug users are way down.

Now, numbers just released from the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction paint an even more vivid picture of life under decriminalization: drug overdose deaths in Portugal are the second-lowest in the European Union.

Perhaps more significantly, the report notes that the use of "legal highs" -- like so-called "synthetic" marijuana, "bath salts" and the like -- is lower in Portugal than in any of the other countries for which reliable data exists. This makes a lot of intuitive sense: why bother with fake weed or dangerous designer drugs when you can get the real stuff? This is arguably a positive development for public health in the sense that many of the designer drugs that people develop to skirt existing drug laws have terrible and often deadly side effects.
