ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Howard Fischer, a 63-year old investor living north of New York City, has a wish for when he dies. He wants his remains to be placed in a vessel, broken down by tiny microbes and composted into rich, fertile soil.


Cemeteries take up too much real estate. That business might complain, but why couldn't the composted remains be used to fertilize their grounds?

I wouldn't mind being fertilizer. My preferred way to go is in the ground, not embalmed and in something biodegradable. 2nd choice would be cremation.

I would like to know what is the carbon footprint of cremation versus this approach? I am all for making sure the most environmentally friendly options are available but is this head and shoulders above cremation?
