Was wondering has anyone tried useing the new KT133a chipset on a Epox 8kta3 or abit to overclock a duron 800. Buy putting the bus to 133 without touching the multiplier or unlocking it. Just pop it in and set bus to 133 and away you go.

If so what speed did you get?

Thanks for all your help

Well, if you just put one in and popped the bus speed to 133mhz without lowering the multiplier, as long as you had a very good Duron chip, you'd get a speed of 1.064 Ghz. However, many Durons won't quite make it this far and so it's probably best to lower the mulitplier to 7 or 7.5 and shoot for as high a FSB as you can manage.

There was a guy on another overclocking forum who managed to get his working stable at 7x144 = 1.008Ghz, but you have to bare in mind that the higher FSB will give a performance increase in itself. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that 144x7 is as fast as 133x8, even though the actual Mhz rating of the latter is higher.

Good luck, should you decide to go for one of these combinations :)

if you were to pop it in like this the only thing you could hurt is the processor correct?

Yes. Also, I believe the KT7A has a BIOS option enabling you to keep the RAM/PCI/AGP totally bang on spec no matter what the FSB is.

It's unlikely you'll actually damage your chip by shooting for a higher speed. If your chip won't do 1064Mhz, it just won't boot. You could try raising the voltage I suppose.
