Duron600@787 Can I go more?

Here is the deal. So far I have got my Duron 600 to run at 850 but it will not go higher. Right now I have the FSB@105 and the multiplier@7.5X for 787mhz. It also works fine at 8X for 840Mhz. The only way I can get 850 is to up the voltage and drop the FSB@100. Anyone have any suggetions on how to get it up to 900. 900 is my goal.

What is your Vcore at now? BTW, my mobo doesn't like it when I try to increase the multiplier in 0.5 step. E.g. when I try 8.5 x 100, the bootup screen just shows 800Mhz. Odd? Did I *ucked up?

If your FSB is at 100 then what ever multiplier you use you just times it by 100. i.e. 8X=800mhz,8.5X=850mhz,9X=900mhz etc. FSB@100 is standard. If you went 8.5X@100FSB and it says 800 something is not right. Maybe oyur FBS is set lower than 100, but that usually dosn't come out to a even number. What board&CPU are you using? If it is the A7V then use the dipswitches instead of the soft bios. If you are using a Duron800 make sure the L1 bridges are unlocked properly.

My current VID is 1.62/1.65. Give me your specs and I will see what I can come up with.

I have a Duron 700 week 48 with a KT7, Kingston valueram pc133 2x128MB. I probably didn't get enough graphite on the L1 connectors. I can't seem to use the 0.5 step multiplier. I have reduced my FSB to a more conservative 103Mhz. I read that the KT133 chipset doesn't perform well above 105Mhz FSB.

I'm running my Duron700@928Mhz (9X103) with Vcore=1.8V, Vio=3.3V. I also load BIOS version WZ beta 1.

I'm got a question, what do I do with the pink pad on the HSF after I take the CPU apart to redo the L1 connectors? I might need to bring out the sand paper, and razor blade to scrap off tha gunk and put on some thermal paste. What do you think?

see how far you can get at 1.85v, I woundnt reccomend much over that but 1.85 is ok if u have decent cooling :)

My Duron 600 as never been OC'd untill I started a few days ago. If I up the voltage it runs to hot. I have had it up to 1.775/1.80 and the temps get up to 46C idle 52C full. I don't like them this high. I need to get a backup chip before I run that hot. The best setting I have had so far is FSB@105,multi@8X,Vcore@1.675/1.70,VIO@3.56, for 840MHZ. I may just stop there untill I can get something better than this Chrom Orb. I also had it at 850 with FSB@100 but I have better overall performance with the FSB@105. Vcore 1.85 is as high as this board will go and I really don't want to mod it. I have probably got it as good as it can get with my current setup. I think the memory is my biggest hold up.

SigKill: I took that pink pad off my cooler and cleaned it to bear aluminum when I bought it and put on thermal grease. I am not to familiar with the Abit boards. I hear though they are picky about the FSB. If I were you I would use the rear window defrost kit on the L1 bridges. Looks like you have decent components, I would think you could get a 1000 out of it, but probably drop the FSB@100. If you are doing what I think you are doing you are trying to get 8.5X with FSB@105???? But it wont exept 8.5X. That is odd!!

Yeah, I'm trying to do 8.5, or 9.5, but whenever I try that my Kt7 just round it off to the lower integer! :( The mobo doesn't like it when I try to up the FSB beyond 103Mhz too. I'm trying to go for 9.5 x 103Mhz = 978Mhz.

But I'm debating if it's worth the effort, since I have to:
1) Take out my HSF
2) Peel off the PCTC (phase change thermal pad) and clean the HSF
3) Get AS and reapply
4) Connect L1
5) Pray that it will do 9.5 x 103Mhz....

SigKill:

You may just want to leave. I don't think upping to 9.5 will help much. Also it does sound like to much work for minimul gains. I want to take my chip out and look at the numbers to see wah tweek it was made, but I will have to conger up the motivation. That damn clip on the Chrom Orb is just to much of a pain.

compellor:

Very good article. I aslo been doing my own test with every setting I can manage and came to the pretty much the same conclusions. FSB seems to benifit more than just multiplier on the Duron/Athlon. I run UT all the time and noticed better gain with the FSB@105 and multiplier at 7.5X than FSB@100 and multiplier at 8.5.

How about the VIO would that make any difference if I changet it? it is at the lowest 3.3 setting now.

changing the V i/o might give the ram a little but more stability, but i don't recommend going past 3.4

I had a question when you guys say
mobo doesn't like it when I try to up the FSB beyond 103Mhz

How do you know it's the mobo and not the ram?
I'm wondering this because i can't get my fsb stable with anything past 101.

If it's the ram i might just get some better ram.
It's odd, because i can run the fsb to 110 for a while, why wouldn't it be able to run 105? that's all i want out of it 105!!!

okaie...i'm rambling....
.....

oh...forgot... how many times are you layer the L1 bridges? i've done it twice and my multiplier still appears to be locked (changing 9.5 to 10 still shows 950)
