Duron vs. T-Bird

Can anyone say how big is the performance difference between these CPUs at same clockspeed? Or can anyone advise where could I find an answer to this question?

The popular refrain is that Tbirds are usually 10% faster at the same clock speed. It's also said that a Tbird 750 will perform roughly the same as a Duron 850. So the 100mhz difference is a good rule of thumb (i.e. Duron 800 performing close to Tbird 700).

it all depends on what programs you will be running. if memory performance is going to be a big deal than the t-bird will justify it's higher price with more performance from the larger L2 cache, but if the program doesn't require a lot of memory bandwidth then the duron is the better buy for you money. for the most part, most programs especially games won't see much of an improvement of a t-bird vs a duron but there is a slight performance gain.

yea I only notice a slight difference when it comes to photoshop, 3dsmax and illustrator. Everything else this duron 650@1060 runs exactly the same as a tbird 750@1050.

i guess in terms of price/performance ratio, the duron edges out the tbird... but if ya got extra cash to spare, why not the tbird? besides, if u're looking to get a cpu which runs at least 1.1ghz (overclocked or not overclocked), the Tbird would be your best bet...
