I have a Duron 700 @ 810MHz 1.68V. VIA Hardware Monitor reports the full load temp as 46C, whereas Sandra 2001 reports it as 28.5C!!!!!! WTF is going on?

I am running an Abit KT7 (brand new) and Coolermaster DP5 6H51 heatsink.
This CPU seems to be an absolute DOG as it won't go to 900 and boot up... even at 1.85V!

P.S. I am using arctic silver too... Is my CPU temp too high (as reported by the VIA thermistor) or is it right (as reported by Sisoft)!!

Don't trust Sisoft with temperatures. 46C does seem a little high for the speed you are running your Duron at.

No go for 900MHZ? Do you have it unlocked?

snag MBM5 and see what that says, you may consider grabbing an external thermistor from 2cooltek or millisec as well. i'd really rather not trust the socket a's

Well, I up and got a FOP38 today, and the proc now runs at 900@1.85V at 42C with the case on at full load. It won't go any higher than that for some reason, but at least it's cool and stable.

I'm considering selling it and getting an 800. What are they like for overclocking?

Also, I noticed that the thermistor on my KT7 stands quite tall, and it would easily make contact with the back of the CPU. On another Socket A motherboard I have seen, it was virtually flat, and probably wouldn't make contact with the CPU package. Would this account for my (still) above average temps.

Edit: typo

Nope, with the thermistor touching the back of the CPU you read lower than actual temps Read this thread

If it were 42C that wouln't be too high under full load, I think.

As for the 800 Duron - I bought one from compuwiz1 here on the boards, running at 1Ghz. I'm sure he's got what you are looking for ;) Heck, he's even got a 650 at over 1Ghz a while back!
