I was helping a friend choose and setup a Duron system, and ran into some problems...
First things first, here's the setup currently.
Duron 700
Asus A7V
128MB PC133 Infineon SDRAM
MSI Starforce GeForce2MX 32MB video card
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 45 20.4GB HDD
Thermaltake Chrome Orb
I unlocked the CPU by connecting all 4 L1 bridges using a pencil, and it seems to work, at least I could post at 750MHz and 850MHz. I tried 850MHz at first, but it couldn't reach Windows, nor 750MHz, not even at 1.75V. Does that mean that its actually already unlocked? Or does the system just show it?
Anyway, when I set it back to the default settings for 700MHz@1.65V, it still refused to get into Windows, except during Safe Mode. Everything seems to be in order in Safe Mode. What could be wrong?
Also, I keep getting an error that the Promise Ultra100 controller cannot detect any ATA100 drives, even though the Maxtor HDD is an ATA100 drive. This happens even after I installed the VIA drivers for the ATA100 controller. It shows up in Device Manager as a SCSI controller though. What's up with that? Is there something in BIOS I must set?
