Hi, i'm a newbie and i'm about to get a Duron 700 retail, i hope. and most likely that Abit KT7 board, i was wondering what ram works well to O/C this baby to around 1GHz(my goal is 1Ghz, but if i cant, then i cant). My friend suggested mushkin Value ram? Should i try Generic ram? Thanks for your opinions!!

I have mushkin and I am real happy. I have no problems at all. Very few of the durons will do 1 gig but you might get lucky. I have built several systems for friends. Four as a matter of fact and none would do 1 gig. They all did 850 stable though.

Anything that would do 133 at 2-2-2 should be fine. Of course, higher quality memory is higher quality memory.

I ran 2 128MB sticks of generic CAS3 PC133 memory before in my A7V (I think they were "kti" chips...) - ran fine, but only at 3-3-3. I'm currently running 1 256MB stick of semi-generic CAS3 PC133 memory - it has Winbond memory chips, so maybe better than the previous ones. This also runs great, and I can even up it to 2-3-2 with no problems - Sandra memory scores jumped almost 100 points! So, get CAS2 PC133 or close if possible...

I dont think that the durons are nearly as picky, mainly because you can overclock by using the clock multiplier instead of the fsb.

I am using some generic PC133 that I got from infotech (federal way, wash.) its ok stuff, doesnt do so well in a P3 overclock, but I am running it on my duron 600@950 and it scorese very, very high on the sisoft sandra memory benchmarks.

I think I spent 108 dollars, so it can be comapred to the mushkin and corsair stuff. Those types of ram are of course, the best. You should really think of that mushkin ram as an investment. The lifetime warranty is worth the exrtra 30 dollars.

Be careful with generic, the only reason I plugged where I bought my ram is because it has infineon chips.

I would highly recommend swimming with the big fish and getting some mushkin if you are planning on stretching the FSB to the limit and trying to hit 1G or more...

With the Durons, since you can unlock the multiplier O/Cing doesn't depend so much on RAM. I have mine at 10*100 since I have real cheap quality PC100 RAM. I don't think I could get much higher, even if I had good quality RAM.

Mushkin infineon pc133

running at 149 cas2.. will do 150 cas2 if dont overclock mt geforce2 mx.

Seems i'm maxing the card at 205/215, and i get lock ups in 3dmark2000 and quake3 with the ram at 150 cas2. But like i said if I'm running the mx at defaut it will run at 150 cas2.

But whats the point of 8 more mhz(896 to 904) if I have to run the mx at default...

My Duron 600 is stable at 900MHz using a 128MB stick of NEC PC-133 CAS2 RAM.

I use 2 sticks of 128 MB Kingston ValueRAM PC133 CAS3. I got these cheap, that's about the only reason I chose this brand.

mushkin rev 1.5 :) this stuff is pretty fast :)

btw, i haven't got the system totally stable yet at 8.5x110 @ 2-3-2, but it completely puts the smackdown on 9.5x100. I mean its WAY faster at 8.5x110.
i think my chip doesn't like it though.

roadrunner: i definitely agree with you that 8.5 x 110 is much faster than 9.5 x 100...i've finally settled on 9 x 110 with my duron 600 and the sucker is blazing fast...definitely faster than 1 gig (10 x 100)

Micron -8e
runs wonderfully with Duron at 111 x 9

Also ran wonderfully with PIII 500e @ 145 x 5

I don't think it's the ram so much as the mobo?
