Duron faster than P3?

I have a duron 600@980MHz stable and it WHOOPS my P3 @900 like a red head slut child!

Kinda unfair test ,what about with the Duron at 900MHz?

A friend of mine did a similar test ,the PIII came out better despite its lower clock speed ,that's hardly surprising though.I don't understand how you managed it ,how did you test this?
Anyway comparing a highend cpu to a budget cpu isn't really fair either.

Yeah, it really isn't. Especially as the budget CPU is kicking the highend CPU's butt :D

Seriously though, Duron is faster than P3 in tasks which don't need loads of L2 cache because of it's significatly better floating point performance. I think the bottom line is that both are very close in terms of performance, and that makes Duron quite an incredible budget CPU.

Sure thing ,the Duron is a kick arse cpu :)

When my friend compared his Duron @ 900 to his PIII 650(?)@ 833(or maybe 800?) he found his PIII slightly faster in Quake 3 ,I don't know if he tested it in other progs though.
