OK, I just got my Epox 8K7A to replace my MSI K7T Pro2-A (Large cap version)
and find that my CPU isn't as stable at 1000 (7.5 x 133) as it was
with the MSI at 10x100 (Rock Stable).

Specs: MSI - Overclockers bios
Epox - 3-20-01 bios

Cricial 2100 (512)
Taisol 742 lapped w/30cfm fan (A-S)
IBM HDD
Enermax 431

What is the diff with the new 133/266 CPUs really anyways ?
THe MB supports 133/266, so why thew diff CPUs ?

Any help here guy would be great....

as i am seeing with my latest duron945(7 x 135) is does not like the uber high FSB speeds my kk266r can kick out. Durons in general are not as good of fsb OCers as a tbird. I also know(from mikewarrior2) that the duron has a higher heat/per cm than a tbird, and that may have something to do with it. Try it at 7x133. You want the highest FSB you can get.

the duron is not designed to run with a fsb of 133. start with a low multiplier then increase until it wont boot, then back off a littlewith the fsb and gradually increase the multiplier. you are running it at different multipliers so i assume it has been unlocked.

Yes, I unlocked it a long time ago....

Question though....I had the 4-in-1b 4.31 installed b4 the upgrade.

All I did was install the AMD miniport driver that came on the disc for the AMD 761 side of things....

Am I OK with this?? I really didn't want to reinstall.

So even though my CPU does 1000 great at 10x100, it may not like to do 7.5x133?

I must assume that there is something INTERNALLY different about the 266 CPUs.

And how do you setup a 266 CPU anyway...

1ghz original = 10x100
1ghz 266fsb = 7.5x133 ?

And will the new Palimino work on this Epox 8K7A ?
Bios upgrade ?

Thx... H-A

266 cpu's are 133 mhz FSB's running as DDR FSB's, which doubles it... so you could also call standard Durons running on this DDR FSB 200, if you wanted. Not really a difference between the 266 or 133 on Thunderbirds, just different ways of saying it.

UPDATE : I now have it at 7 x 150 for 1050 !!!

Not bad for Duron 600 !

I had to go to 2.10v and maxed out the V on the DDR too.

Thx for the input guys.

I still wonder how the newer 266 CPUs are different from the 200 fsb ones.

Would I set up the multiplier the same way??

Oh well...good for now.

Yes, the desktop Athlon 4 (based on the Palomino core) will work fine on current Socket A platforms - as in fact will all currently planned revisions of the core according to AMD - both the Thoroughbred AND Barton cores are going to be Socket A. Of course, by then you'll probably want a new chipset anyway, but it's nice to know.
