Duron & A7V nightmare

Hello,

Got a Duron 650 and Asus A7V mobo. When I plub in the power cord the power will not go off unless I unplug it. Start and reset switches do nothing. I also do not get any video out--using leadtek tnt2.

Suggestions?

Frustrated :-(

*Sorry, but I will cross post this.

first of all, I dont know if this is related, but I had to attach all my led lights and reset/power wires backwards compared to the manuals instructions.

also, the a7v gets an initial power check, but then it shuts back down.

you should also check the bios settings for your agp (4x or 2x)

goodluck

Thanks,

I should say I'm not new to building out computers. I must admit though, I've only used abit in the past.

I'm aware of holding the power switch for 5-10 seconds and the computer shut down. In this case, I get no video, no boot, no beeps. The computer will just run without any activity. I can hear the hard drive spin up, the cd-roms detected, etc., yet nothing on the screen. The video card is fine. I checked it on another machine. The memory and all other devices work fine on my other box. This is ^&*() driving me nuts.

Try booting up the computer with only the essential components (i.e. video card, CPU, HDD, RAM) and see if the computer will POST. If the computer will POST, start installing other components and start eliminating your choices from there. Also, is your power supply feeding enough power? If, with the essentials the computer still will not POST, you most likely have a defective motherboard or other defective component.

Kam:

Remember the multiplier settings are wrong in the motherboard manual for duron processors, if set correctly your machine should run for 5-10 seconds then shut off, then you have to power on by the start button in the front of the case. If the multiplier is set wrong the fan will keep spinning and not shut off, for my 700 duron only the 4th switch is opposite of the others, also juggle back and forth between jumper free and jumper mode until it starts up for that 5-10 sec cycle(try one then the other)
