Hi,

Here is some info on my system:

- AMD Duron 700 OEM
- ABIT KT7
- Micron PC133 128 MB RAM
- MSI Geforce 2 MX
- Nvidia Detonator3 6.18 video drivers
- Quantum 20gig 7200RPM Hard Drive

I have a Thermaltake SuperOrb and as you know it is hard to fit it on a KT7 mobo, i filled it to death and it was able to fit in the socket without touching the capaciter. My idiot brother wanted to try putting it in, seeing as how he wouldnt damage the capacitors i let him. Low and behold, when he was trying to put it on, his hands "slipped" and the fan fell on the die of the cpu. A very TINY piece got chipped off the edge. I figured it wasn't nothing to worry about because no liquidy die came out.

I checked the CPU in programs like SiSoft Sandra, it reported the L1 cache is 64kb and as well as the L2 cache. Isn't L1 supposed to be 128KB?? I notice big performance differences than that of the reviews of my cpu/video card. They show my computer should run at 80 fps in quake 3 while it runs at 30 fps. Here is a picture i took of WCPUID, is this info right? Is there a program that will give me all the info of the program, because some people say SiSoft Sandra is old and doesn't show cache properly. Or is this how my proccessor should be? If so, what do you think is causing the low frame rates?, i know its not q3 settings, i use a config that takes off detail.

Here are the pictures of the info on CPU:

Both the L1 and L2 caches are 64kb, so.. You're not having a problem there.

Are you using vsync with Quake3? That -might- be the problem, but I'm really not sure.

Hi,

I off'd vsync..but still performance is unsatisfactory. Comparing with the review I saw at www.gamersdepot.com on the same Video card (MSI Geforce 2 MX). Their set-up was exactly the same as mine except for they used a MSI K7T Pro Mainboard and a Duron 750. Mine is a Abit KT7 and a Duron 700. I did a quaver demo a few minutes ago, i get an average of 55 frames per second comparing with 72 fps which is what they got.

What about BIOS settings? Do you have video BIOS shadow enabled/disabled? Sidebanding? AGP 4X?

Wait, refering back to your first post, isn't the Duron supposed to have 128kb L1 Cache?

ok, it says i have 64kb L1 instruction cache and 64kb L1 data cache. That means my L1 cache is 128kb doesnt it? I don't think its my bios settings, i set them to optimized..everything is on performance. Could the proccessor itself be damaged, not the cache?
