pretty cool deal...i went to the computer show today they had oem 700 for 50

i had a question...if i see pencil marks on the oems at the computer show...
does that mean the chip didn't oc well and they are selling it?

all their oems have pencil marks..you think they would erase them or something...
trying to sell it as "new" sheesh....

bought one of these from another store 6 months back and paid 45 beans for it. If they are already marked, that means that they are used! Might even be burned from over OCing it without proper cooling.

Kingofcomputer,
I ordered one last Sat. Upgrade Planet sent 3 e-mails, one when order was received, one that it was being processed and one when it shipped. It did not ship till yesterday, Wed, and i received it today, thurs. They are in VA and I'm in MD. The packaging was fine. It shipped in a box w/ syrofoam peanuts and cpu was in a clear plastic sandwich designed for Durons/T'birds. Although they were a little slow on shipping the overall transaction was not bad. The L1 bridges are open, so I am planning to get a rear window defroster repair kit and close them to start my first attempt at oc'ing.

well it was through the glass view...and nothing but the chips were there...in those square box things...and i could see the L1 bridges ... and a sticker on the L6 and L7 saying if it's removed the warranty is void...it's oem cuz it ain't shrink wrapped

All those pencil markings... My oem chip from TCWO came with a barcode over the L7 bridges, although i don't know why. Maybe to hide pencil marks? Yikes! But seriously, the shipping was cheap and the product came fast, and it runs great, so I've got no complaints so far (it's an 850 tbird btw). And I'm not greedy (yet) so I'm not clocking it, for now. ;)

Well, suffice it to say, if a Duron/Tbird has pencil marks on it, it can't possibly be new. I'd hardly consider that oem. That's refurb at best, and fried at worst!

Maybe to inventory the CPU? Please tell me you're being sarcastic.

Anyhoo, the L7 only changes core voltage which is something you can do in your BIOS. L1 bridged is unlocked multiplier and L1 open is locked multiplier easily remedied by a pencil or defroster repair.

Peel that sticker off and kiss your 1 year warranty goodbye because it's the only way a company knows THEIR Duron processor from another's.

Losty, there were no pencil marks around open bridges. I examined it under a magnifying glass. There was a bar code label at an angle across the L7 bridges which I removed. It looked like a Upgrade Planet inventory/ident label. It came off in one piece so i could reapply if necessary for return. Although there were no pencil marks, all of the open bridges had a very slight discoloration possibly from laser cutting at AMD factory. The chip seems to run fine. My first attempt at oc'ing ended up in a lock up where system would not boot and i had to reset (jumper) cmos. Chip worked fine at 7x 113 and 35 on pci, but when I tried 7x 125 and 38 pci w/ 1.75 CoreV, it would not boot, no video. I have not unlocked multiplier yet, just wanted to try going up on fsb, but I believe I should have left pci at 33. The cpu from Planet Upgrade appears to be new. I am using artic silver 2 and a AMD retail hsf (from 900 mHz T'bird).

I ordered some stuff from them a week ago and now this just shipped them. I'm going to have to wait another week for them arrive. This is terrible customer service taking a week just to ship some items.

Lex, I would honestly just stick with a high quality mobo. You could always upgrade it later...

hey guys...i ordered from them recently...the cpu's are fine...it takes close to 2 weeks to get it though....and as for shipping, the 9.99 is a flat rate, cuz i ordered a video card from them too and shipping for the entire batch was still 9.99, so if you get more than 1...it's well worth it....

oh, and the cpu was a "model 3" ...can't remember core color though....works fine, and no there was not any pre-existing pencil marks....

I personnally do not reccomend this vendor. Shipping is slow and overpriced, bad return policy
and poor customer support. Maybe I was an isolated case, but i won't shop there anymore.
