Hi All,

After seeing many duron overclocking success, I went out and bought a Duron700 and hoping to o/c to above 950Mhz. Well, My duron 700 can only be stable up to about 880Mhz. Anything higher, I would get a black screen on POST amd I have to clear CMOS to reboot again. I am already at 1.850 Volts. My duron temp is about 40C idle and 46C when running Prime95. The thing is, I am using a modified FEP32 heatsink (designed for socket 370) and not a socketA heatsink. If I get a new heatsink, would I be able to overclock higher? Suggestion anyone? Thanks

Think he did the pencil trick or he wouldn't get to 880 out of a 700 (8*110). Don't know if a better hsf will do the trick but socket 370 hsf's are simply not designed for DUROND/BIRDS. The clip pressure needs to be much higher (12-20lbs is AMD spec). A TAISOL CEK733092 for about $11 plus shipping is a very good investment.

Would a Black screen at POST represent a locked CPU or that the CPU cannot run at the set speed?

(i.e. when I set my duron700 to 9x100=900 or 8.5x105=893, it would give me a black screen on POST. note: I can set the CPU to run as high as 114x7.5=855)

Thanks

One way to see if it is a 'Heat' related issue would be to remove your case cover and have a fan blowing into the case.

My Duron 600 would not post over 980. I have the stock HS and Fan. Because I wanted to 'experience' that magic "G" spot, I removed the cover and pointed a small desk fan into the case. 10@100--1000 mhz--1 GIG !!! Windows and all. I haven't tried any stress testing, but it works.

You gotta love AMD.
