Do I put HSF and CPU together first then put in the socket? The reason I ask is because I saw a picture of someone putting artic silver on a cpu that was already in the socket.

The HSF is put on after installing the CPU in the case of Socket A chips.

HSF's are held down by the socket itself, so the cpu should already be in the socket. The trick is to minimize the HSF moving around while you lock down the clip.
