I recently got a KT7-RAID, a Duron 600, and a stick of Crucial 128MB -7E RAM. I'm using a Taisol CEK733092 (thanks DaYooper!) for cooling, with Arctic Silver between the HSF and the processor.

I have been using the Prime95 Torture Test (P95TT) as my litmus test, and the highest that I've been able to run P95TT successfully at is 9 x 100Mhz FSB @ 1.775 Volts. At this setting, the CPU runs at around 40C idle, 43C under load.

Since I maxed out my performance with the 100Mhz FSB, I decided to try incrementing the FSB under the 9x multiplier. This didn't meet with much success. So far I've tried 111Mhz, 105Mhz, and 103Mhz, and while the latter two boot into windows 98 successfully, P95TT fails on the first iteration.

Where can I go from here? And am I wrong in basing my system stability around Prime95?

You don't need to hit the server for it, just go to the Options menu and select the "TortureTest".

If you don't mind, could you tell me what settings your MB/CPU is able to run the Prime95 without reporting a hardware error?

^^^ anybody else have an opinion on whether prime95 is a good litmus test for CPU stability?

Hey i still cant get it to run. but you know what I use that is a sure way to tell me if cpu is stable 3d mark 2000 run that like 30 times in a row and if system still working all is good.

Could never get Prime 95 to work on mine even at default speed. But it runs fine using o/c celerons and P3s - don't get it. Yet duron 600@900 is stable in all other ways. Prime95 is crap anyways try the other cpu stability test that generates certs.

I ran it last night (using the "torture test") with my Duron 600 overclocked to 800 MHz at 1.65v and it failed within a few minutes. I then bumped up the voltage another notch to 1.675 and ran it for a good 8 hours today and it completed all tests successfully. My Duron 600 will do 850 MHz, but with the voltage set to 1.8v, it fails the "torture test" within seconds. I guess I'm stuck at 800 MHz until I get a 1.2 GHz TBird. 3D Mark 2000 works fine except for the 64 MB texture rendering test: it either locks up or crashes back to the desktop.
